2012 was an amazing year in the technology industry. Mobile devices have proliferated into our homes and workplaces at an amazing pace. Equally amazing is how quickly these relatively new devices and an incredible selection of apps and cloud services have become integral parts of our personal and professional lives. The bring your own device (BYOD) movement has reinvented the notion of workplace technology and radically redefined the relationship between knowledge workers and IT professionals.

It has been an incredible privilege for me to watch this wave of transformation that is often referred to as the consumerization of IT (and sometimes also the IT-ization of the consumer or employee).

As 2013 begins, these trends show no sign of slowing down. If anything, the consumerization trends appear to be accelerating.

My mission remains helping you use these incredible technologies to the fullest while also ensuring needed security – whether you’re a technology professional trying to stay afloat in a sea of changes, a knowledge worker trying to ride the consumerization wave, or just an Apple and mobile technology fan.

Keep checking here or follow me on Twitter, Google Plus, or LinkedIn for my take on everything on the Apple, mobile technology, and consumerization fronts. You can also check out my author pages at CITEworld, Computerworld and Cult of Mac.

Warmly,
Ryan J. Faas

What Skycure (and others) failed to acknowledge is that IT departments can already block this attack vector using Apple Configurator and proactively search for malicious profiles across all managed devices using almost any mobile management or security suite.

The iPad started to become a resource for NFL teams during the 2011 season when a handful of teams began using it as an alternative to paper playbooks. During the 2012 season, the iPad replaced playbooks for several more teams and it became a staple tool on the sidelines of 16 teams for assessing injuries like concussions. Next season, as part of its commitment to player safety, the NFL will equip all teams with iPads accessing league-wide electronic medical records and diagnostic systems to treat injured players and learn how to prevent traumatic brain injuries.
